In 1974, Chrysler transitioned C bodies to what is known as the "spool" mount system. This is where there is a round rubber insert molded into the actual steel mounting bracket. If the rubber should fail, the metal structure surrounds the bolt and will restrict the movement of the engine, so that under full power the engine doesn't lift up and destroy the fan shroud, linkage and other underhood areas.
Unlike the earlier C-Body's, spool mounts use a specific K member for big blocks and small blocks. So, our factory reproduction brackets must be used with an oriiginal big block car. If you are putting a big block in a small block car, you must either swap the K member to a big block one, or use our special conversion mount brackets.
We now offer a BRAND NEW REPRODUCTION set of the impossible to find big block "spool" type mounts, used on B bodies starting in 1973 and all other body styles in '74 and later. These feature heavy duty rubber inserts for higher horsepower applications. Sold as a pair, with the rubber inserts already installed, so these are ready to bolt onto the engine and drop onto the K-frame. Notice the right hand bracket does not have a tube welded across the channel area of the mount making it easy to distinguish from the left side bracket. Chrysler used many part numbers for these brackets, all of which refer to the same part. The right hand mount interchanges with Chrysler # 3642812, 3642814, 3817124, 3817116, and 4001746. The left hand mount (with tube welded in) interchanges with Chrysler # 3642809, 3642815, 3817125, 3817117, and 4001747.
Finally, a hard to find reproduction of the factory bolts that will allow you to bolt your engine support brackets to the motor mount ears which are cast into the side of your engine block. These have the thin style washers and fine thread just like the factory originals that Chrysler used. And because they are US made from high strength steel, they work great for those high horsepower applications as well. One kit contains six bolt/washer/nut assemblies, enough to do one complete engine (both sides.)
For those on a budget who already have the original "spool" type engine brackets, we carry these replacement inserts. These fit all "Spool" type engine mount brackets. The old rubber must be removed from the mount and replaced with this new insert. Works for both sides. Sold ONE per package, so order quantity of 2 if you need a pair.
We now offer a 100% polyurethane trans mount available for a Mopar! Polyurethane offers stiffness and strength far beyond the factory "rubber" mounts. It lasts much, much longer than rubber, it won't crack or dry out. And it will handle the power of a big displacement engine without the harshness and 100% vibration transfer of a solid steel mount. This is the "later" style (spool) trans mount. These were generally used on B bodies from 1972-76, E Bodies from 1970-74, and A Bodies from 1973-76 with automatic or manual trans, as well as some other applications. Please compare your old mount with the picture to verify correct application.
