Comp Cams High Energy Hydraulic Lifters - Set of 16 Not all lifters are created equal. Comp's "High Energy" hydraulic lifters are their version of standard non "anti-pump up" style lifters. They are produced with a longer piston than conventional lifters, and also feature a lightweight check valve disc that allows for quicker response, and added oil control at all engine speeds and loads. Use these Comp High Energy Hydraulic lifters with stock, stamped steel type rocker arms, with cams .510" lift or less, in applications which the engine will see less than 5000 RPM. For applications above 5500 RPM (or for any type of racing applications,) cams above .510" lift (which generally will use dual valve springs,) we highly recommend their "Anti Pump up" style Pro Magnum Lifters, (Listed separately.) Seat height on these is 1.88".
Comp Cams Pro Magnum Hydraulic Lifters - Set of 16 Comp's Pro Magnum (Anti Pump Up Style) premium hydraulic lifters are the recommended choice for all the Comp Hydraulic cams we sell above. These are mandatory for any type of racing use, or in any application in which the engine will see over 5000-6000 RPM. At these higher RPM's Comp has done extensive testing. They have found not only were the Pro-Magnums good for about 10-15 more horsepower, but they also do not succumb to lifter "pump-up," a condition where the internal piston inside the lifter can fill up with oil and not have enough time to drain or "bleed down." This can result in the piston being in an improper position as it "pumps up," which can lead to holding valves open, which in turn can lead to greatly reduced power output, or in some cases (if that open valve happens to strike a piston top) there can be extreme engine failure. These must be used with an adjustable type of valve train, such as adjustable rocker arms (preferably roller rockers) along with the associated pushrods required. These lifters are considered essential to ensure that your cam has the longest possible life and is fully covered under Comp's warranty policy. And, since this is Comp we're talking about, you can be assured of two things: The product is 100% made in the USA, and the quality is second to none. Seat height on these is 1.84".
Howards Cams/Morel Street Series Retrofit Hyd Roller Lifters Our Howards Cams Street Series Retrofit Hydraulic roller lifters are 100% USA Made in Cleveland, Ohio by MOREL. Morel started making lifters over 55 years ago for Eaton, and they now operate out of a 100,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Cleveland with over 100 pieces of manufacturing machinery, and they do all their own heat treating in-house, allowing them to maintain full metalurgical control. Sales and engineering for Morel is now handled by John Callies (of Callies Crankshaft fame.) They have grown to become an OEM lifter manufacturer for many other well known brand names such as Howards, Trick Flow, Erson, Lunati, etc. These high performance street lifters are designed primarily for ease of maintenance and reliability. They "drop into" a stock block with no machine work or oil system mods required, and work with all the steel billet hydraulic roller cams we sell, regardless of brand. The lifters have the bodies shaped with cold form technology, then Carbonitrided and tempered for proper hardness and maximum durability. They are then CNC-machined and fitted with precision check ball internal valving to prevent lifter "pump up." The roller wheel is hardened and tempered steel alloy, and the cross bars are made from heat treated stainless. These features combine to provide a broader power band and increased rpm potential, while still offering the low maintenance of a hydraulic cam. These are designed for street performance enthusiasts who want to upgrade to a hydraulic roller camshaft. These retrofit hydraulic roller lifters are specifically designed for street applications up to 6,500 rpm. Roller diameter is .700", and seat height is 2.661"Howards part number 91767.
Solid Roller Lifters - Set of 16 Our Solid Roller lifters are a very nice quality lifter at a great value! These feature FULL ROLLER BEARINGS on the wheel (not bushings), as well as a solid lifter body, without an oil band in the middle of the lifter. In Big Block Mopar engines, with certain cams, solid roller lifters with a "cut" in the middle of the lifter body can uncover the oil galley and cause oil pressure issues. We made sure that won't be an issue here. A nice set, these are made directly for us by the same factory that makes them for many of the "name brand" lifters, and that allows us to offer them at a fraction of the cost. Roller diameter is .800", and seat height is 1.481"
Heavy Duty Standard Hydraulic Lifters - Set of 16 - New We offer our Heavy Duty Standard Hydraulic Lifters. Great quality at a great price, these are made directly for us by the same factory that makes them for many of the "name brand" lifters, and that allows us to offer them at a fraction of the cost. Use these with both stock and most performance cams under about .510" lift, especially if you are using non adjustable factory stamped steel type rockers. These work great for up to 5500 RPM. If you intented to go beyond that point, then we recommend going with our "anti pump up" style of lifters along with an adjustible valve train such as roller rockers, etc.
Heavy Duty Mechanical (Solid) Lifters -Without Oil Band We offer our flat tappet solid (mechanical) lifters. A nice set, these are made directly for us by the same factory that makes them for many of the "name brand" lifters, and that allows us to offer them at a fraction of the cost. These lifters are completely solid with no oil band. These are the most desirable type of solid lifter to use in a big block Mopar. Some other types of solid lifters can have an oil band or groove cut into them. In some cases, as the cam raises the lifter, the groove can intersect with the oil galley and allow major releases of oil, leading to oil pressure issues and excess windage. So we highly recommend these "full body" style lifters to ever prevent that from happening. As with any solid lifters, ADJUSTABLE ROCKER ARMS MUST BE USED. These must be used with a cam designed for solid flat tappet lifters. Sold as a set of 16. Seat height is 1.303"
Comp Cams Engine Break In Oil Additive Along with the purchase of any Comp cam and lifters, we also strongly recommend using Comp's engine break in oil additive. This is it essential to make sure your cam and lifters are fully covered under Comp's warranty. It's a well known fact that, due to EPA regulations and other reasons, over the last few years oil manufacturers have removed the Zinc and other additives from their motor oil. If you try to break in a brand new cam and just add regular "off the shelf" motor oil from your local parts store, it is VERY likely you will have a failure. You must add this additive to the oil to replenish the zinc which is no longer included by the oil manufacturers. This works with synthetics, blended, and standard petroleum oils. In our own engines, we usually get a couple extra bottles to keep on the shelf and add one at every oil change. It's cheap insurance.
Comp Cams Cam and Lifter Installation Lube, 4oz Bottle Comp Cams has taken great pains to develop what they feel to be the best line of lubricants available to protect your engine before startup and during break-in. Used by professional engine builders throughout the country, their cam and lifter lube is a red tacky oil which sticks to the surface and won't bleed off. This is ideal for engines which will sit for any amount of time between initial startup and when the cam and lifters were installed and lubed. This ensures your cam and lifters have full lubrication upon startup, preventing any galling or scuffing upon first contact. One 4oz bottle is enough to do one engine.
