Our new engine block uses a priority oiling system which is vastly improved over the factory OEM blocks. In factory blocks, to get oil to the rockers, the oil has to travel from through the main galley, down to the main bearings, back up to the cam, around the cam bearing (from the six o'clock position to where it is split into the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions, and during this part it is restricted by the clearance between the camshaft and the cam bearing which is usually only a few thousandths of an inch...) and then up to the rocker shafts. Needless to say, the OEM blocks don't have the most free flowing oil system to the rockers. For many years people have gotten around this by running external oil lines from the heads directly to the pressure ports at the upper rear part of the block, but this is a bulky and costly solution. For our new block, we have tapped DIRECTLY into the main galley with a huge 3/8" diameter passage that simply goes straight up to the heads, avoiding all the unecessary snaking around we just mentioned. However, because the passage is 3/8", you probably don't want that much oil going to your rockers. So we include these handy restrictor plugs, which thread right into the pre-tapped passages from the deck surface. We include two drill bits with them (sized at .040" and .060",) so you can drill a hole in them, depending on which size you prefer, and how much oil you want going to the rocker arms. We recommend starting with the .040", and if you want to increase the amount of oil to the rockers, then go further to the .060". These two sizes will work great for 95% of people, but, you can also use any size bit you want and customize the exact amount of oil you need, depending on your setup.
