Windage trays fit between the block
and the oil pan and help to control oil spraying around the bottom end of
the engine. This reduces drag on the crankshaft/rods and translates into
more horsepower.
A note on "windage tray height." There
are many different trays on the market, made to many different heights. When
using a stroker crank, the longer stroke will cause the crankshaft and
connecting rods to swing out farther than in a factory (stock stroke)
application. If you are attempting to use a windage tray which is designed
for a stock stroke in a stroker application, the crankshaft and rods may hit
the tray. For this reason, we make our stroker trays deeper, as you can see
in the picture below, on the left side.
Shown above is our brand new "stock stroke" windage tray. Use for all big blocks, with factory stroke crankshafts. Will not clear stroker crankshafts. Comes plated in gold iridite finish. Another great 100% USA MADE part available exclusively through 440 Source at below wholesale pricing!
Our new FULL COMPETITION windage tray is the premium way to go in a high performance or racing application. Designed for stroker setups, we custom weld these trays into a circular shape (shown in extra pictures) to ensure they stay as close as possible to the crankshaft throughout it's entire revolution, wiping as much oil as possible away, and freeing up as much horsepower as possible. Top Fuel applications have used these trays for years, but because of the extensive welding and shaping of the steel which is involved during manufacture, the "name brands" have sold these types of trays for $150-$250. This has put them well out of the range of the average sportsman racer and especially street/strip enthusiast. However, that's about to change. We are now offering these competition style trays at a price the average Joe can afford.
Because these are designed mostly for race setups, we intend for people to use them mostly with external oiling setups, so we don't cut the clearance hole for an internal pickup tube. If you are planning on using internal oiling, a clearance hole can easily be added with a die grinder. Because of the "full length" nature of these pans, some modifications may be required when using these with fabricated aluminum oil pans, or pans which have a billet pan rail which is larger than stock.
Use these for all big blocks, with strokes from stock up to 4.500! (with steel rods). Comes plated in gold iridite finish. Another great 100% USA MADE part available exclusively through 440 Source at below wholesale pricing!
We carry a nice cork type oil pan gasket for those that prefer this style of gasket contruction. These fit all big blocks, all years. These are the same oil pan gaskets that are supplied in our complete kit , however when running a windage tray, two are required (one on the top, and one on the bottom of the tray.) We offer them separately so you can get the extra one needed if you are running a windage tray.
