What is the actual difference between a
standard and a High Volume oil pump?
As you can see above, for the high volume version of the big block Chrysler
oil pump, we have increased the height of the rotor assembly by about
.250" (1/4 inch) so that the volume or "amount" of oil that is pumped is
increased by approximately 25%. In order to fit the taller rotors, the case
or pump body must be increased in height as well by the same amount. In the
above picture, the stock versions of the rotor and pump body are shown on
the left, and the taller versions are shown on the right. Because of the
height increase, high volume pumps must also use bolts that are longer than
the stock oil pump bolts so the thread depth engagement remains the same. We
offer oil pump bolt kits for both standard and high volume pumps. Big block
Mopar "factory type" cast iron pumps use 3 "short" bolts and one "long" one. |
