Another innovative new 440 Source exclusive big block Mopar part! These awesome 100% USA MADE fabricated aluminum timing covers are fully tig welded from super thick 5 gauge (.182"thick) sheet aluminum. That includes both the flange (for awesome gasket sealing ability) and the front of the cover (to eliminate flex & keep those roller cams & buttons exactly where you put 'em.) Factory covers are stamped from 20 gauge (.036") steel, so these covers are OVER FIVE TIMES thicker than a factory cover! It's like night and day! The seal insert is fully CNC machined from billet aluminum and then welded into the cover. This is the lightest (1.9 pounds), strongest and most trick cover you'll find, hands down! Commonly available cast aluminum covers provide the strength, but they don't work at all with factory style cast iron or aluminum water pump housings. On our test engines, we've found our passenger side aluminum water pump housings work great with no interference at all while our drivers side housings require slight grinding on the back at the area of the bulge where the lower hose attaches. After some slight grinding, they fit great also with no problem. Also, please note: some modification of cam buttons and/or cam attaching bolt heads may be required due to the slightly reduced space between the front of the cam and the back of the cover. This is because of the increased thickness of the front of the cover. If we would have restored this cam to inside cover dimension back to factory, this cover would not have been able to work with cast iron or aluminum type water pump housings. Our only other choice would have been to make the cover out of thinner material, and of course we didn't want to do that! So don't expect this to be a 100% bolt on deal, but it sure is worth the extra effort! A super cool part that nobody else is going to have, but everyone's gonna ask where you got it! These work great with our 200-1073 Billet Aluminum Timing Pointer with no modifications whatsoever required.
Please note: Sheet aluminum is very soft! Even sliding it across a table will cause very small scratches. We try to be as careful as possible during manufacture, but occasionally there will be some small surface scratches on some of the covers resulting from normal handling during the manufacturing process. When the sheet aluminum is clamped in a jig or bent in a brake, sometimes the brake will leave a small line or marks where it pushed up against the aluminum to shape it. This is stuff you would find with any fabricated aluminum parts due to the soft nature of aluminum. The vast majority of our customers would never give any of this a second thought, but we have had some people who are VERY particular. If you consider yourself very, very particular about this kind of stuff, we would recommend you have someone either powder coat these covers, or polish them to a mirror finish. This looks great and will remove any trace of surface imperfections.
